How To Make CBD Vape Juice?
What Is The Difference Between CBD Oil And CBD Vape Juice?
CBD oil is a product intended primarily for oral consumption. It is produced by extracting CBD from the cannabis plant, after which it is mixed with hemp or coconut oil, which in this case, serves as the carrier oil.
If used in vaporizers, it will reach the lungs, which can lead to serious respiratory problems.
For this reason, liquids for vape pens should never contain oil, nor should CBD oil be placed directly in them!
The exception to this rule is MCT oil (medium-chain triglyceride), which, due to its composition, can be used as a base for vape liquids.
On the other hand, CBD vape juices as liquid bases contain various alcohols such as vegetable glycerin (VG) and propylene glycol (PG), which will completely evaporate without accumulating anywhere.

What Are The Ingredients Of CBD Vape Juice?
In its most basic form (without nicotine), you can make vape juice with only a few ingredients: the base, which usually consists of vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol, and aroma.
In addition to the compounds mentioned above, CBD vape liquid contains CBD. The way to get CBD into a vape liquid is to add CBD isolate. We will explain how to do this in more detail later.
1. Vegetable Glycerin (VG)
VG, which is also called glycerol or simply glycerin, is a sugar alcoholย obtained by heating vegetable oils under pressure, which separates the fatty acids from the glycerol itself. It comes in the form of a thick, transparent, odorless liquid with a slightly sweet taste.
Vegetable glycerin is the main ingredient of most vape liquids because its evaporation creates a thick smoke a lot of vapers go crazy for.
2. Propylene Glycol (PG)
PG is a synthetic alcohol that can be found as a thick, transparent, tasteless, and odorless liquid.
It is a much better solvent than glycerin and therefore retains flavors better, but the smoke produced by its vaporization is much thinner than the smoke produced by VG. For this reason, a mixture of both VG and PG in various proportions is used as the base in most vape liquids.
In addition to being a flavor carrier, PG is much “rougher” on the throat, giving a feeling similar to the one you get when smoking tobacco cigarettes, the so-called throat hit.
Propylene glycol also acts as a preservative and will extend the shelf life of a vape liquid.
3. Aroma
The aroma of the vapor is perhaps the most interesting aspect of smoking vapes and e-cigarettes. While the options for modifying the taste of tobacco are pretty limited, the flavor in your vaporizer can literally taste whatever you want.
However, never use ordinary or essential oils as an aroma for e-liquids.
As we mentioned earlier, these oils are not intended for smoking and can cause lung issues. Therefore, purchasing vape flavors from authorized stores is definitely recommended, as they guarantee that the products are safe for smoking.
4. Terpenes
Terpenesย are hydrocarbon-based aromatic molecules present in nearly all kinds of plants that give them their fragrance and odor.
A lot of them are naturally found in cannabis, which is why many companies that sell CBD vape juices use them as a flavor enhancer instead of the usual vape liquid flavors. They also boost the effect of the cannabinoids, which is another reason to add them to your DIY CBD e-juice.
5. CBD Isolate
CBD isolate is a concentrated form of cannabinol (CBD), which is obtained by extracting and isolating the CBD from full-spectrum cannabis oil.
The extraction and isolation involve removing all other active compounds found in the plant. The leftover CBD can be found in the crystal or powder form and has no particular flavor or taste.
It is quite popular around the world due to its many possible applications and simplicity of use, as well as the fact that it is the only CBD product that does not contain the other famous cannabinoid, THC.
CBD isolate can be more than 99% pure and is usually mixed with hemp oil or other oil-based alternatives for consumption or topical use on the skin.
However, in this tutorial, we will not be mixing it with oil but with the main ingredients of a regular e-liquid.
Step-by-step Guide On How To Make CBD Vape Juice
Tools
- Syringe
- (Digital) gram scale
- Glass bottle for vape liquid
- Mortar
- Pestle
Materials
- CBD isolate
- Propylene glycol
- Vegetable glycerin
- Aroma/Terpenes
Okay, enough with the theory, let’s get our hands dir – sorry, busy. In this step-by-step guide, we will make 30 ml of CBD e-liquid with 500 mg CBD, in which the ratio of VG and PG will be 50/50.
It is one of the most popular, if not the most popular, ratios that offers a great balance between taste, throat hits, and vapor cloud production.
If you prefer the throat-hitting and flavor-enhancing properties of PG, you should go for a ratio of 60 to 40 or 70 to 30.
On the other hand, if you are someone who likes VG’s sweetness and cloud production, your CBD e-juice should contain more VG.
But you should know that the problem with VG is that it does not dissolve CBD isolate. For this reason, it is important that your base liquid does not contain 100% VG.
More importantly, it is necessary to completely dissolve the isolate in propylene glycol (PG) before adding VG to your CBD vape juice.
Let’s start!
Step 1: Pour propylene glycol into the glass bottle
Using a syringe, measure 14 ml of propylene glycol and pour it into an empty glass bottle that can hold at least 30 ml of liquid.
Step 2: Grind CBD isolate if it is in crystal form
If you have CBD isolate crystals, you will have to grind them in order to turn them into powder. Measure 500 mg of CBD isolate in crystal form using a gram scale, add it to the mortar, and crush it with a pestle until it is all powdery.
Step 3: Add CBD isolate
Add 500 mg of CBD isolate powder by carefully pouring it into the bottle containing propylene glycol. Close the bottle with a lid.
Step 4: Mix propylene glycol and CBD isolate
Shake the glass bottle until the CBD isolate is completely dissolved. After a few minutes, no parts of it should be visible in the mixture.
Pro Tip: If you want everything to go smoothly and ensure that the two substances are entirely blended, or if by some chance the CBD isolate has not completely dissolved, you can immerse the bottle in warm water for a few minutes.
Step 5: Add VG to the mixture
Using a syringe, measure out 14 ml of VG and add it to the bottle. Shake it vigorously again until the mixture becomes uniform.
Step 6: Add flavorings or terpenes to the mixture
The exact amount and choice of aroma is a matter of personal choice.
The general rule is that for every 10 ml of base liquid, you should add at least 0.5 ml of aroma, but you can put more if you want a more intense taste. Since we are making 30 ml of vape juice, we will add 1.5 ml of it.
Most manufacturers indicate the ratio in which the aroma should be mixed, so pay attention to the instructions on the packaging.
In any case, add the desired amount of aroma and shake the bottle once more.
Step 7: Smoke up!
Your DIY CBD vape liquid is now ready to use, and you can use some of it to fill your vape tank and finally start smoking!
Its shelf life is between one and two years, but it can last even longer, depending on the amount of propylene glycol and the exact storage method.
If you plan on making larger amounts of it in the future, store it in a dark and cool place to ensure the longest shelf life. Changes in the density and smell of the liquid are a sign that it has started to degrade and most probably expired.
CBD Vape vs Disposable Vape
Purpose:
- CBD vapes are used for therapeutic benefits like anxiety relief. Disposable vapes provide nicotine satisfaction recreationally.
Ingredients:
- CBD vapes contain CBD oil, vegetable glycerin, propylene glycol, and natural flavoring. Disposable vapes contain nicotine, nicotine salts, flavorings, and other additives.
Strength:
- CBD vape oil comes in different potencies like 500mg or 1000mg. Disposable vape strength is measured in nicotine percentage like 3% or 5%.
Device Types:
- CBD is vaped through refillable devices or cartridges. Disposables are self-contained, one-time use devices.
Usage:
- CBD vaping is done regularly throughout the day. Disposable vapes are used sporadically when nicotine is desired.
Legality:
- CBD vape legality depends on cannabis laws. Disposables are restricted only by tobacco age limits.
