Nowadays, there is such a huge range of vapes to choose from – both refillable and disposable – and sometimes, it can be hard to decide which ones to try.

One of the main concerns people might have though, and something that’s likely to be more important than the types of flavors available, is safety.

So to help you make an informed decision about one of the most popular brands, in this post, we answer the question, is Juicy Bar vape safe?

What is Juicy Bar?

Before we get onto whether or not Juicy Bar is safe, let’s start at the beginning and introduce Juicy Bar and its products so we all know what we’re talking about.

Juicy Bar is a brand of disposable vapes made by Dongguan Delin Technology Co., LTD, a company based in Dongguan in China’s Guangdong province.

The company’s website doesn’t have an “about” section, so they aren’t exactly forthcoming with details concerning the company’s history or mission statement, but we can see from the site that they currently produce three main Juicy Bar products in a range of over 40 flavors.

Their three products are the JB2500, the JB5000 and the JB7500 Pro, all disposable vapes that offer 2,500, 5,000 and 7,500 puffs, respectively.

In terms of appearance, they look incredibly similar to the ELFBAR BC Series vapes and have clearly been designed with this model in mind.

ELFBAR was one of the pioneers in the world of disposable vapes, and many other companies have tried to emulate ELFBAR’s success by releasing similar products. Some have copied ELFBAR’s design fairly overtly, and Juicy Bar is a good example of this.

On the other hand, an example of a company trying to stand out by doing something different is Spiritbar, the up-and-coming vape brand that’s responsible for the Jack’s Flask 9000 Puffs.

The Jack’s Flask is designed to resemble a pirate’s rum flask, evoking a life of adventure and excitement on the high seas.

It also provides users with up to 9,000 puffs of high-quality – and safe – vape juice that’s available in a range of delicious flavors, making this the kind of convenient and attractive vape that will appeal to style-conscious vapers everywhere.

In any case, Juicy Bar is one of many companies currently producing disposable vapes, so now let’s look at whether these products are safe.

Are the ingredients in Juicy Bar safe?

Almost all vapes currently sold contain four main ingredients: propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG), nicotine and a range of chemicals that are collectively termed “flavorings”.

Whether PG, VG and nicotine are safe for vaping is a question that concerns all vapes and not just Juicy Bar, and it’s something we’ll return to later in this post.

However, where the various brands of vapes differ from one another is in what’s used as flavorings, so let’s look at this first.

Whereas the PG, VG and nicotine components of vape juice are the same regardless of the brand, the different chemicals used to provide the flavorings vary from one brand to another.

The problem is, many of the ingredients used in flavorings have not been tested for their long-term effects on health when vaped, so we don’t really know what all of them do.

Some ingredients, however, are now widely avoided since they have been connected to certain health issues.

For example, acetyl, a chemical used to sweeten microwave popcorn, was once common in vape juice but now is much rarer since it is thought to be responsible for the condition that’s become known as “popcorn lung”.

One thing we can say about Juicy Bar is that the brand’s juices don’t contain any chemicals that are known to be harmful, so in this sense, the juices are as safe as any other.

The only slight concern might be with the brand’s “ice” flavors, which use the synthetic coolants WS-23 and WS-3 to mimic the cooling effect of natural menthol.

These compounds have potentially been linked with causing stress to lung tissue when converted to aerosols (or “vapor” as we commonly call it in the context of vaping, although this is technically incorrect).

However, this has not been proven – and at the moment, all we can say about Juicy Bar vape juices is that there is no reason to believe the flavorings are any safer or more dangerous than those found in juices produced by any other brand.

Is vaping safe?

So we can say that, as far as can be currently determined, the ingredients used for flavoring Juicy Bar vapes are fairly standard for the industry, so they don’t represent an elevated risk of damaging your health compared to any other brand.

But what about vaping itself? Is it safe to heat vape juice to convert it to aerosol form and then inhale it? Let’s think about this next.

PG and VG

The two main ingredients in vape juice are PG and VG, and both of these are included as carriers for the flavorings and the nicotine after the juice is vaporized.

Furthermore, PG is responsible for the so-called throat hit that replicates the feeling of taking a puff on a cigarette while VG is used to produce large and satisfying clouds of vapor.

Both of these substances are considered safe for human use and are common in foods, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and more – they are so ubiquitous that there’s a high likelihood that you use products containing PG or VG almost every day.

However, while they are considered safe for uses such as this, since vaping has only been around for a relatively short time, we’re less sure about the long-term health risks associated with vaporizing and inhaling PG and VG.

At the moment, the results of the studies that are emerging are mixed.

Some appear to show that there may be some health risks associated with vaping PG and VG while others show they are likely to be largely harmless.

For now, all we can say is that more work needs to be done and that we are not sure that they are completely safe – so this is something to bear in mind when considering taking up vaping.

Nicotine

The other major ingredient in vape juice is nicotine – although this is obviously not present in nic-free juices.

Nicotine is the highly addictive chemical that’s found in tobacco, and it’s the main reason why people find it so hard to give up smoking.

It’s included in vape juice because many people turn to vaping as a way of giving up smoking, and since vapes can deliver a similar nicotine hit to a cigarette, they can help people fight the urge to light up a cigarette.

However, it’s important to point out that while nicotine is highly addictive, it’s not in itself considered to be one of the most harmful compounds found in cigarettes.

Cigarettes are known to contain over 7,000 harmful compounds, many of which are carcinogenic – but nicotine is not one of them.

Nicotine can increase the heart rate and can also cause elevated blood pressure, but in otherwise healthy people, these are not considered major risks.

(That said, nicotine can be more dangerous for people suffering from certain medical conditions such as high blood pressure or for those taking birth control pills that contain estrogen.)

This means vaping juices that contain nicotine is not especially harmful in itself – although since it is highly addictive, you may easily become hooked on vaping, which is why it’s not recommended for people who have never smoked.

It’s safer than smoking

There is a caveat to all of this, however, and that’s that even if vaping turns out to be harmful to health – either because of the PG or VG content or because of the chemicals used in the flavorings – it’s still likely to be a lot less bad for you than smoking.

Indeed, some sources suggest that vaping is likely to be 95% less bad than smoking, so logically, if you smoke, it’s much better to give up tobacco and switch to vaping because it’s likely to be much better for you than smoking, even if it isn’t entirely without risks to health.

Or to put it another way, it makes sense to give up something you know is incredibly bad for you in favor of something that might be bad for you and that is, in any case, probably not nearly as bad for you as what you were doing before.

Interestingly, Juicy Bar vapes are available as 5% and 3% nicotine versions, so they can also be used to gradually wean yourself off nicotine when you quit smoking, making them a decent option for anybody looking to switch to vaping as a way of giving up tobacco.

As safe as the next brand

Juicy Bar is certainly a popular vape brand, but how does it stack up against the others in terms of safety?

As we’ve seen in this post, what we can say about Juicy Bar from the available information and the current state of the science is that Juicy Bar is probably as safe as any other brand – so if you’re looking for an option to help you quit smoking, Juicy bar is as good as any other.
